I don’t need to enroll in a virtual assistant course to get hired. I have been working for years. Surely my experience would be enough to get hired. Well, that’s what I thought. I thought I didn’t need to invest in a Virtual assistant course.
Your work experience could help you land a Virtual assistant job and you can learn a lot from watching videos and reading blogs. Surely it would be easy to get scheduled for an interview right? Unfortunately, you are wrong.
When I was starting out, I didn’t have enough money to pay for an online course. I thought by watching Youtube videos and work experience would be enough to easily attract clients for an interview. But I was wrong. Eventually, I did pay for an online course and it is worth it Let me tell you why.
Before I tell you the reasons why I think it is a good idea to pay for an online course, let me tell you that this is not a sponsored post. You will not find any affiliate link to an online virtual assistant course. I just want to help people save some time and be on their merry way to becoming a virtual assistant. I know it is not easy to land your first interview, your first job offer, and your first Client. I went through that. I hope this article will help you out.
1. Save Time
The Internet has an abundance of articles and videos about Virtual assistance. The only problem is, how would you know the information is legit? Some videos might be outdated. The freelancing world is evolving and more and more traditional office workers are jumping ship. You don’t have time to waste as the number of people competing for the same position that you are applying for is growing rapidly.
if you do find a website that would provide all the information that you need, most of them would require you to pay for a subscription to get full access.
But don’t lose hope. There are plenty of free resources that I would tell you about later in this blog. I personally learned so much from them. Keep on reading until the end of the post and I will give you some free and paid virtual assistant courses to save you some time.
2. Certificates and Skills
Most clients don’t have time to train their VAs. That is also the reason why most clients prefer to hire an experienced virtual assistant. If you are applying for a job that you have previous experience with, then you might get hired. But if you are changing careers then you might need to invest in some courses to help you get hired faster and earn money quicker.
Most legit online courses provide certification that you can use when applying for a virtual assistant job. Also, online training courses have the most updated information for your niche. Learning from people who are seasoned VA would eliminate the guesswork and save you a lot of time.
One good thing about investing in a paid course is the network that they have. What do I mean by that? You will meet people who could help you widen your network within the VA community in the Philippines. After taking the course, some of them would offer apprenticeship programs that can help you find a client.
I paid for an online course by a company called FVA consultancy. I enrolled in their virtual assistant course and a Search engine optimization course last year. FVA has an apprenticeship program. If you get selected for the program, you will get paid while you are still learning the ropes. They also have an Agency where you can get long-term clients called Surge Digital agency.
Jason Dulay founded VA Bootcamp which is another company that has helped a lot of Filipinos how to become Virtual Assistants. They offer free courses as well as paid courses. Quickpro is another great resource for aspiring VAs and is run by Coach Maj. I have attended some of his training and learned a lot from him.
As promised here are the website and Facebook pages of the companies indicated above

Personally, I didn’t need to pay for an online course when I was starting out. I applied for a company and they set me up with multiple interviews with potential clients. I got accepted and they provided 2 weeks of training. After a while, a colleague referred me to a client who was looking for a VA and I got another job.
I was tasked to do social media and search engine optimization. I have been blogging for years and know about SEO but I needed a certificate and enrolled in an online course with FVA consultancy. It was worth it. I knew that I needed to upgrade my skills if I was to hit a 100K salary per month in my first year of being a Virtual Assistant. More on my virtual assistant origin story in the succeeding post.
There are free courses on the net for those who don’t have the extra money for paid training. Free training would teach you the basics so that you can get your feet wet and start your Virtual assistant journey. Although you need to be a bit more patient to land a job. You might get hired by a client who would be willing to train a new Virtual Assistant. There are VA companies that are willing to train people before endorsing their trainees for interviews like some of the Facebook groups that I mentioned.
If you want to earn more and earn faster, I suggest you invest in yourself and get enroll in a paid online course. Specialized Virtual assistant jobs such as Web design, Social Media Management, Graphic Design, Video editing and many more would help you earn more. You definitely need a certification. to land any of those jobs. If you don’t have enough funds for a paid online certificate but have the necessary skills, I suggest you create a website and showcase your portfolio there. That way your future clients can see how good you are.
